Abhishek Nair, who was recently removed from his role as Team India’s batting coach, may soon return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) in a familiar capacity. Though his contract was terminated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) mid-season, reports suggest he could be back in the IPL fold – this time with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Nair likely to rejoin Kolkata Knight Riders

According to a report by Cricbuzz, Nair is likely to rejoin Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a franchise where he has previously played a key role.

Not only has he served as their batting coach, but he has also been instrumental in running the KKR Academy. Under his guidance, KKR had a successful campaign in last year’s IPL, eventually lifting the trophy. With his strong connection to the team and a proven track record, his return for IPL 2025 seems quite likely.

Nair also has extensive experience in personal coaching, having worked with several top Indian cricketers, including Rohit Sharma. His hands-on coaching style and focus on player development have earned him widespread respect.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently made sweeping changes to the national team’s support staff, also relieving fielding coach T Dilip and fitness coach Soham Desai of their duties ahead of the five-match India vs England Test series, which takes place after end of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. With his national duties behind him, Nair now has a chance to re-establish himself in franchise cricket.

Kolkata Knight Riders struggle to find momentum in IPL 2025

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders haven’t had the best start to IPL 2025. With only three wins from seven matches, they currently sit sixth in the points table. Bringing Nair back into the fold could give the team a much-needed boost in the second half of the season.
